Gabrielle ?Coco? Chanel?opened her first millinery shop in 1910 and became one of Paris? premier fashion designers by the 1920s. She became known for simple hats, comfort, casual elegance and eventually, couture. Her signature cardigan jacket from 1925 and her signature black dress from 1926 are still classics. Her first perfume, Chanel No. 5, was introduced in 1921 and remains popular today. Though Chanel passed away in 1971, her fashion house lives on, led by chief designer Karl Lagerfeld since 1983.
